In the Summer of 2000, the Charlotte Running Company first opened its doors in the historical Leeper-Wyatt Grocery store building at 1919 South Boulevard in the South End District.

Charlotte Running Company began as a partnership between former professional distance runners and ACC competitors Scott Dvorak (NCSU) and Eric Hichman (UNC-CH), both of whom were top 3000m steeplechasers in the ACC and U.S. Olympic Trials qualifiers. Eric left the company in 2003, while Scott expanded the business, opening the second location at Promenade on Providence in South Charlotte in 2006.

In 2009, Donny Forsyth, one of the top Masters triathletes in the country, became the first brand partner by purchasing the Promenade store. The ownership group expanded again in 2011 with Todd Joefreda, who partnered with Scott to open the Mooresville store and later the Northlake location in 2014.

After Todd’s departure in 2016, Jamie Davis, an avid triathlete and runner, joined as a new brand partner, acquiring both the Northlake and Mooresville locations. That same year, Scott and Donny opened the Riverwalk location in Rock Hill, SC, situated on the Catawba River with over five miles of running trails right out the door.

In June 2022, Harry Chandler, who had been instrumental in the company’s growth, was invited to join the ownership group. Then, in 2023, Brad Popple, who had previously managed the Promenade store and brought over 10 years of experience in the running industry, rejoined Charlotte Running Company as part of the ownership team.

Today, Charlotte Running Company operates four stores with five dedicated owners, all committed to providing the best products and customer service possible.
